This last week has not been what I expected. I had an appointment with my oncologist on 10/30. I was supposed to go for a biopsy afterwards, my 6-month check. I was feeling a little under the weather, and at first check, my fever was low-grade. I told my oncologist I wanted to go ahead with the biopsy. However, before the appointment was over, my temperature had spiked. I was told I needed to go get an X-ray and head to the Immediate Critical Care (ICC). I was given fluids, and blood was taken. Although my port was already accessed, the blood had to be taken via a vein…the old-fashioned way. They tried my hand, as they usually cannot get a good vein in my arms. A different nurse came in and ended up taking it from a vein on the back of my arm. That really hurt! The plan was for me to be admitted to the hospital. The X-ray showed I had pneumonia, and during my stay, I was also put on oxygen. I stayed in ICC overnight. My mom went home late, and my stepdad came by in the morning with an overnight bag for the hospital. The nurse practitioner on call determined that I did not need to be admitted. I got to go home!!
It has been challenging since I have been home. I was getting out of breath very easily. One of the antibiotics I am on causes my stomach to be upset and causes some nausea. I have rested A LOT…I don’t want to end up going back for a hospital stay.
I have been working on wreaths. I made one of onesies, little pants, pacifiers, and rattles for my oncologist’s nurse. I am almost done with a UGA one for a Sorority sister. And I had another nurse I see sometimes ask me to make her a birthday wreath. I have all the pieces I need for it. I just need to wrap the wreath form in ribbon and make the bows for it.
My grandmother is not doing well. She is in a rehab facility, as her heart is failing. I pray I am well enough this coming weekend to make the trip to see her. I may check to see if my son wants to come home and go with us. It may be his last time to see her since he is in NC for school.
My stepdad and I made witches again this year for the front yard. We made four, like last year. They are all standing around a cauldron. We added some flickering orange flame lights under the cauldron. On the other side of the tree from them, we added gravestones and skeleton animals. My son and I added Halloween colored lights to the porch. I love decorating for Halloween almost as much as for Christmas.
I got a journal to help me read the Bible in a year. I know I could just pick it up and read it. However, this journal gives me thought-provoking questions each week to answer about what verses I read that week. I also got The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad. You read an excerpt each day and journal based on a given prompt. I’m really enjoying it!
Well, it’s almost time for dinner, so I’m going to sign off. Until next time, I will be dancing with Luke!
